Labor Day Fun Guide – What to do for Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend signifies a time to honor all who “labor” with a day off, but to many, it also marks the end of summer. Either way, it’s worth celebrating with a lot of family fun! My family begins a countdown to Labor Day as soon as school begins until our first 3-day weekend of the school year.

Community events during Labor Day weekend

Aug. 25-30

Payne County Free Fair at the Payne County Expo Center

4518 Expo Circle E, Stillwater

See livestock shows and a wide variety of agricultural exhibits, plus enjoy a carnival and activities for kids. See website for schedule.


Aug. 26-31

OKC Comets vs Memphis Redbirds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark

1 Mickey Mantle Dr, OKC

The Comets take the field against the Redbirds. $20 & up. Tuesday-Saturday, 7:05 p.m.; Sunday, 6:05 p.m.


Aug. 28

FREE Rock the Route in Downtown Yukon

Main St between 4th & 5th St, Yukon

Enjoy live music, food trucks and family-friendly activities. Tanner Usrey will headline the festival. Free to attend, but some activities are pay-to-play and prices vary. 6-11 p.m.


Aug. 30

College Football Kickoff Tailgating Party at OKANA

639 First Americans Blvd, OKC

Watch the OU game on the Lagoon screen, plus enjoy a live DJ, team spirit costume contest, OU & OSU trivia and more.11 a.m.-5 p.m.

FREE Guided Gallery Tours at Oklahoma Contemporary

11 NW 11th St, OKC

Go on a free guided tour of the museum’s exhibitions. Gallery Guides lead inclusive, conversational tours that encourage curiosity. Preregister. 1-2 p.m.

Saturday Night Show at Oklahoma Opry

25 S  Oklahoma Ave, OKC

Hear local and regional talent perform with the Opry Band. $20. 7 p.m.


Aug. 31

Core to Shore 5K at Scissortail Park

300 SW 7th St, OKC

Follow the certified course through the park to experience the gardens, lake, playground and other attractions, in honor of the park’s 5th anniversary. $35 before Aug. 1; $45 after. 9 a.m.-noon.

Labor Day Celebration at OKANA

639 First Americans Blvd, OKC

Celebrate the long weekend with a live DJ, performers, face painting and patriotic crafts, in addition to the resort attractions. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.


Sept. 1

Labor Day Celebration in Henryetta

Main St, Henryetta

See a parade and concerts, plus enjoy a carnival with rides and games. Free to attend. Prices vary. 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Close to Home: Vietnam’s Effect on Edmond at Edmond Historical Society & Museum

This exhibit, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war’s start, tells the story of five soldiers and a USO volunteer.

PARTY! at Factory Obscura

Created by artists Krista Jo Mustain and Emily Madden in collaboration with Factory Obscura, PARTY! is a cozy, safe landing spot where you can escape the mundane and rest in the joy of nostalgia.

Sewn Symmetry: Symbolism of Southern Plains Beadwork at First Americans Museum

The exhibition explores the artistry of the Arapaho, Cheyenne and Kiowa communities through beadwork selected from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science collection. From color to pattern, Indigenous beadwork is a beautiful form of visual language. These designs often carry cultural knowledge embedded within them and are passed between generations to express culture, societal roles, family histories, and more.

My Friends, The Trees at Myriad Gardens 

Madeline Dillner works for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in the Brownfield Program, which utilizes EPA grants to assess and remediate brownfield sites across the state of Oklahoma. Her focus on painting trees began in 2024 as part of an Allied Arts project.

Discovering Ansel Adams at Oklahoma City Museum of Art

With original archival materials from the Center of Creative Photography’s Ansel Adams Archive, the photographs on display demonstrate how Adams transformed from a fourteen-year-old tourist with a camera into a renowned photographer between 1916 and the 1940s.

Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds: Honor Song  at Oklahoma Contemporary

This landmark exhibition will be the first retrospective for internationally recognized artist Edgar Heap of Birds (Cheyenne and Arapaho Nation) in his state of residence, featuring multimedia works from an impressive and lauded 40-year career.

Zoorassic World at Tulsa Zoo 

Zoorassic World: Frozen in Time, which closes after Labor Day, is an immersive, temporary exhibit featuring more than 25 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs from the Permian, Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, plus the giants of the Ice Age in natural vignettes.
