Highlights include:

  • Florence Price: Dances in the Canebrakes – A spirited work by one of America’s most important composers, blending ragtime, jazz, and Afro-Cuban dance rhythms with classical form.
  • Hamed Erfani: The Hidden Longing – A world premiere by OCS’s new Composer-in-Residence, written in a traditional Persian musical form and offering a powerful contemporary voice.
  • Bartók: Romanian Folk Dances – A colorful and energetic set of dances rooted in Eastern European folk traditions, inspired by Romani folk musicians, with OCS embracing traditional performance practices informed by Benda’s studies in Hungary.
  • Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 – One of the composer’s most beloved symphonies, often called the “apotheosis of the dance,” celebrated for its relentless rhythmic drive and propulsion.
