The Metropolitan School of Dance is a nonprofit 501©3, the organization that offers high-quality dance instruction in ballet, Pointe’, modern, tap, hip-hop, African and jazz dance to students ages 3 through adult.
Formerly Inner City Dance Institute, their community-based organization was founded in 1980. At that time, classes were conducted at City Arts Center on the State Fairgrounds and later moved to Stage Center in downtown Oklahoma City. Their nurturing environment is a positive attribute of arts activity through dance while increasing the appreciation of dance in the community.
Instructional programming focuses on proper techniques in the styles of dance taught while building positive self-esteem, discipline, determination, self-empowerment and self-worth both in classical and cultural dance styles. These attributes are a plus each season, as classes and performances display a collection of diversity of cultures while building lifelong friendships, common bonds for all cultures or ethnicities. MSDI highlights the very foundation of basics for those who desire to dance.
Whether the goal is to be a professional dancer in life or to build solid skills for everyday life, through arts enrichment at MSDI participants will find invaluable purpose in our studios AND did we fail to mention that this is all achieved while having fun!
