For my son's 6th birthday he wanted a beach theme, we had Hawian items and a character stand where the kids could put their faces for pictures. They had a blast and got to take the pictures home in a frame we made at the party out of seashells. Teri L., Guthrie
My son had a sleep-over at the house with 5 of his closest friends. We had a bubble gum blowing contest, some archery, and a pinata outside too. It's best when the birthday child can take part in planning their special day. Suzanne J., Newalla

Teddy Bear Party - My daughter wanted a Build-a-Bear party for her 6th birthday, but that was not in the budget! So, we went to Dollar Tree and bought teddy bears with sweaters for $2 each, fancied up the sweaters, and unstuffed the bears. When the guests arrived, they chose a bear, put a felt heart in their bear, and stuffed their bear.(Adults sewed them up). Then, they brushed and blow dried their bear, measured and weighed their bear (on one of those food scales), named their bear, and received an official certificate. We played "Going on a Bear Hunt" in the back yard, and my dad hid and held this big bear to "scare" them at just the right time. It was fun for everyone, and most of the friends still have their bears (party favor) 4 years later. Beverly T., Norman
A group of my daughter's friends got together and got pampered, shopped at some popular stores and chose and eatery to dine at. Keisha E., Oklahoma City
Pirate Party This action packed "homemade" birthday party was definitely my favorite. The kids all dressed in pirate attire--bandanas, eyepatches, beads, etc. while they made puppets and played games such as X on the Treasure Map, Gold Coin Toss, and Captain Bones. After a Pirate Puppet show that led them on a treasure hunt to the table, they found their own treasure chest full of goodies--beads, chocolate gold coins, mini compasses, flags and telescopes. We all enjoyed the Treasure chest cake made by my grandmother. The best part of the party however, was playing "Walk the Plank" and the Parrot Pinata. It was a memorable good time matey! Michale G., Norman
A friend of mine and I have boys that are only a couple weeks apart in age; so we have done a joint party for them the past couple of years. Both parties were a success and easy on the wallet. Marla W., Oklahoma City

I had plenty of jewelry available for them to wear. We had lunch and then cupcakes and tea (punch.) The girls had a blast. I also hosted an outer space party for my son when he turned 7 earlier in the year. We transformed our garage into outer space using glow in the dark paint, stickers, and glow sticks. We made the planets out of styrofoam balls and strung them from the ceiling. I made old fashioned party games using a space/alien theme. The kids painted moon rocks and at the end of the party we shot off a rocket. All the parents were amazed with how much I did and the kids had a great time. Brandy M., Moore

I like to do parties that aren't the norm. My family likes to Geocache and so I created a theme party based on that for my son. We marked 3 caches and made a map for the boys to follow that lead to my son's big birthday present. I copied a map of our town and had it made into an edible cake topper. My kids are all grown but I have my 13 year old grandson who will be 14 in January. My daughter passed away on September 7 2009 and he came to live with us. My son was rescued by the fire department, when his Grandma had accidentally locked him in the car. He has ever since loved and admired the firemen. For his 3rd Birthday, I had called our local firehouse and they brought the fire engine to the party, let the kids climb in, take pictures, even let the birthday boy pretend to drive the truck. The firemen are always wonderfl with children. They sounded the siren as they left, per request from the birthday boy. **Special note: I had a plate full of homemade chocolate chip cookies ready to hand the firemen when they left as a thank you. For the party itself, I had pre-cut fire chief hats for the kids to decorate (even got stickers from the local firehouse). Last year we made her a party at Mcdonalds. We didn't have that much money but she really wanted it there. So we worked it out and gave her a party there. She was very happy. Just seeing her happy made it all worth it. It was great all her friends came and she had lots of fun. What made it very special to me is that she was very happy and was having lots of fun. That made me remember when I was little that I wanted a party but I never got one because my parents couldn't afford it. It is not the children's fault for the problems grownups have. Always try to do something it doesn't matter if it just a cake and you. They will know at least you try.
